What is the Postal Visa Extension Program?

• The Postal Visa Extension Program gives you the opportunity to extend your visa without having to go to the office for an interview. (Note: The consular office reserves the right to request an interview to confirm that the applicant is eligible for a visa to enter the United States.)
• Most visa applications are processed and returned within 8-10 business days
• The visa application fee includes the courier service fee of your passport to the Consular Office and return it to you.

How can I send photos?

• Photo must be square, size 5cmx5cm, and white background, no glasses.
• Photo must be taken within the last 6 months.

 What if I no longer hold my old passport which contains my old visa?

• You will not be eligible to participate in the Postal Visa Extension Program. You will need to make an appointment and come to the interview site.

I am eligible to renew my visa by mail, but my child has never had a visa. Can I submit a visa application for my child with my application?

• Is not. If your child has never had a visa, you will need to schedule an appointment for your child and accompany him or her to the interview.

I want to extend my visa by post, but I need my passport urgently to travel to another country – what should I do?

• You should wait until you return from your trip to submit your visa extension application.

 Can I extend my business/tourist visa in my official passport? Do I need to submit a Note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?

• You can extend your business/tourist visa in your official passport. Business/tourist visas do not require a Note from the Department of State.

Should I send additional supporting documents such as my household registration book, diploma, and birth certificate?

• No, you should not submit. You should only submit the documents as requested on the website.

What can speed up the processing of my visa extension application?

• Prepare full visa extension documents. Check the required documents here.
• Download good quality electronic photos as required.
• Print the DS-160 application confirmation page with a laser printer for clearer barcodes.
• If you have several US visas in different old passports, you only need to submit the most recent prior visa.
• Remember to submit your Visa Interview Waiver Confirmation Letter. This is proof that you have paid the visa application fee.

Some Notes when extending US Visa

Most cases of US visa extension will not require an interview. But there are still some cases where the Consulate may request a re-interview and ask you to add some necessary information if it is suspected that you are not eligible to meet the US Visa extension criteria.
