Types of US Immigrant Visas include:

US immigrant visa under direct membership:

This visa is not limited in number in 1 year, so if you are in this category and can provide sufficient proof, the rate of getting a  US Immigrant Visa is  very high.
  • IR1/CR1: Spouses of US citizens. The applicant must be legally married to a US citizen. The petition is only open for review after the marriage certificate is obtained and the sponsor (ie the spouse with US citizenship) is 18 years old or older and is residing in the US.

  • K1: The fiancé of a US citizen. The marital status of both people must be legal to get married, they must have met in person within the last 2 years, and after the sponsored person comes to the US with a K1 visa, the two must be married within 90 days .
  • K3: Spouses and stepchildren of US citizen spouses.

US immigrant visa for family members:

Family members of US citizens can apply  for a US immigrant visa  through the sponsorship of their relatives. This type of visa is limited in number of years, so it will be very difficult for you to get a green card under this category. The process of applying for an immigrant visa for family members includes:
  • U.S. citizens file Form I-140.
  • Applicants must file Form I-485 to change status if living in the United States or apply to the National Visa Center if living outside the United States.
